Giankanja - Kenya
This unique peaberry coffee comes to us from the Giankanja washing station at the southern slopes of the picturesque Mt. Kenya and the foothills of the Aberdare mountain range in Nyeri county. Smallholder farmers selectively handpick ripe cherries and deliver them to Giankanja where they undergo meticulous sorting. This lot consists exclusively of peaberries, which are the result of a natural mutation in the coffee cherry. Whereas there are usually two beans nestled together in each fruit, in a cherry with a peaberry mutation, only one bean forms. Peaberry mutations occur in approximately 5% of all coffee, are known for their small, round shape, and what many observe to be a sweeter flavour profile.
